๐ŸŽฌ The theme for Pi Day 2023 is "Mathematics for Everyone"

๐ŸŽž๏ธ Theme: The theme for Pi Day 2023 is ๐Ÿ“ท “Mathematics for Everyone”, proposed by Marco Zarco ๐ŸŒŒ Rotairo from Philippines’ Trece Martires City National ๐Ÿ“€ High School, according to the official website ๐Ÿ“ž of the celebration. History: The day was recognised in ๐ŸŽซ 1988 by physicist Larry Shaw as he ๐ŸŽฅ organised a large-scale celebration at the San ๐ŸŽฌ Francisco Exploratorium in the United States. It ๐Ÿ˜‘ was first celebrated by cutting a Pi-shaped ๐Ÿ€„ pie, and the recitation of the value ๐ŸŽ›๏ธ of pi to as many decimal places ๐Ÿƒ as possible. The value of Pi was first ๐ŸŽ—๏ธ calculated by a mathematician named Archimedes of ๐Ÿ“€ Syracuse. It was later accepted by the ๐Ÿ” scientific community when Leonhard Euler used the ๐Ÿ… symbol of Pi in 1737.
๐Ÿ“  In 2019, the United Nations Educational, Scientific ๐Ÿ•น๏ธ and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in its 40th ๐Ÿƒ General Conference decided to observe Pi Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŽค as International Mathematics Day. Significance: Pi is an irrational ๐ŸŽฌ and transcendental number, which means that its ๐ŸŽ›๏ธ decimal representation never ends and never repeats. ๐ŸŽ–๏ธ Since its exact value cannot be known, ๐Ÿ“ผ we can never find the exact area ๐ŸŽน or circumference of a circle. People in Egypt ๐ŸŽซ believed that the pyramids of Giza were ๐Ÿ“ป built on the principles of pi. The ๐ŸŽซ ratio between the height of the pyramids ๐ŸŽค and the perimeter of their base is ๐Ÿ“ฃ the same as that between a circle’s ๐Ÿ•บ radius and circumference. The day is celebrated to ๐Ÿ“ˆ recognise and appreciate the importance of mathematics ๐Ÿ€„ in our daily lives. Pi is a ๐Ÿ‘พ fundamental constant which has been significant in ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ performing calculations and Mathematics has been studied ๐Ÿ“ผ and used by scientists.
๐ŸŽฏ It also coincides with the birth anniversary ๐ŸŽซ of scientist Albert Einstein. Widely renowned theoretical ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ physicist Stephen Hawking died on this day ๐Ÿฅ in 2018.
